Libice nad Cidlinou lies five kilometres south-east of Poděbrady.

The first written mention of Libice appears in Cosmas's Chronicle of the Czechs and concerns the death of Duke Slavník in 981. The Slavník stronghold in Libice nad Cidlinou was established at the turn of the 8th and 9th centuries and served as the seat of the Slavníks in the 10th century. The village has a Catholic Church of St Adalbert and an Evangelical church. The municipal office is on Husova Street, and the village has a nursery and a primary school.
